Mr. Asad Umar, Chairman of the Pakistan Business Council in his inaugural speech at the Aman-Ki-Asha economic conference which the PBC is partnering from this year called on the Indian side to ensure a level playing field for Pakistani businesses in India. While welcoming the decision of the Government of Pakistan to move from a Positive to a Negative List for trade with India, he cautioned that the goodwill which currently exists for trade on both sides of the border will rapidly dissipate in the absence of frontloaded benefits for consumers / businesses on both sides of the border. He especially mentioned the hurdles being created for Pakistani cement exports to India and called on the Indian side to also facilitate Pakistani exports of textiles and agricultural produce to India. Finally he called for a relaxation in the visa regime to facilitate direct linkages between businesses on both sides of the border.
